Why should one visit Tortuguero?
Located in the North Caribbean flatlands, more than
11 different habitats have being identified there. Is considered
to be the most important area in the Occidental Caribbean coast
for the egg laying of the Green Sea Turtle (Chelonia mydas),
Leatherback Turtle (Dermochelys coriace), Hawksbill Turtle
(Eretmochelys imbricata) and the Loggerhead Turtle (Caretta
caretta) that come to its beaches to lay its eggs during a good
part of the year. Never the less this are not the only attractions,
its flora and fauna are very characteristic and a great way to experience
the natural life.
